Abstract

Charges, agitating.-The poker or stirrer 4 of a gas producer is mounted eccentrically in the rotatable top 1, and can be both raised and lowered, and rotated about its own axis. As shown the stirrer is continuously rotated by screw gearing 11, and is raised above the level of the charge by pinions 12 and racks 8, the pinions being mutilated so that the stirrer will drop by its own weight to force the teeth 4' more or less into the fuel according to the height through which it has been raised. This height can be varied by an adjusting nut 7, and when desired the stirrer can be held in its raised inoperative position by set screws 28. The casing 1 and the stirrer are driven by a motor 18 mounted on the casing. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes a fuel distributing device, which now forms the subject-matter of Specification 338,141, the arrangements for supplying cooling water to the stirrer and the various water seals, and an alternative arrangement for varying the distance through which the stirrer is lifted, by the use of interchangeable segments on the pinions 12. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
