Abstract

Solidifying. - Liquid carbon dioxide is expanded to a pressure below the triple point pressure in the passage 5 and recompressed to above the triple point pressure in the diffuser 5a of the nozzle. Wet snow is formed and collects on a filter 6. The residual gas is drawn through the bed of snow, which is thus increased in density, and is passed to the low and high pressure cylinders of a compressor through pipes 13, 14. The pressure in the chamber 1 is varied by operation of the cocks 8, 12. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that according to a modification, the gas is expanded to below the triple point pressure into a chamber; the snow formed collects on a filter in the chamber and is solidified to ice by residual gas throttled through it. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
