Draught, determining. - In ships' draught gauges the damping of pulsations in the water column is carried out in two stages. The gauge glass 1 supported by brackets 18, 19 is in communication with the sea by way of a tube 2 in which is located a spiral 10, Fig 2, connected with the gauges through a stop-cock 13 which is operated from deck by the hand-lever 17, Fig. 1, link 16 and lever 14 controlled by a spring 15. Below the tube 2 is arranged a box 5 in which is located a transverse tube 6 open to the sea and having on its lower portion holes 7 constituting the first damping-device. The sea water has access to the tube 2 by way of the perforated upstanding tube 3 which, in association with the spiral 10, constitutes the second damping-device. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a gauge with more than two damping devices. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
