Dynamometers; systems for testing motor vehicles.-Comprises the combination with apparatus for testing the braking or driving power applied to the wheels of motor vehicles, of means for measuring the load on any one wheel of the vehicle. A trough 20 has a pair of roughened rollers 21, 22 shaped to conform to the tyre of the wheel received upon them. On one side of the trough is a triangular casing formed in two parts into which extend the spindles of the rollers each spindle being fitted with a sprocket wheel around which passes a chain which also passes over a sprocket 32 on a shaft 31 mounted at the apex of the casing. The spindle 31 drives the sprocket 32 by means of a reduction gear 34, 35, 37, 38 the spindle of the wheels 35, 37 being carried by arms 39, 40 of which the latter extends downwardly and is provided with lateral projections 41, 42 adapted to engage the shorter arms of bell-cranks 43, 44 the other arms of which bear on a T-shaped presser 57 which in turn bears on a conical spring 59 connected on the under side to a rack 61 which gears with a pinion 62 on a pointer spindle. The load measuring means comprises a lever 66 pivoted at one end to the trough the other end passing into the gear case and engages under one arm of a bell-crank 69 the other arm of which carries a knife edge 70 engaging the projection 40. The lever 66 is provided in the centre with a pivoted plunger adapted to pass through the base of the trough. The plunger is lowered to the ground by turning a nut 74 with the aid of a tommy bar, and on further turning the nut, the load is transmitted to the spring 59 and indicated, still further turning of the nut causing the whole apparatus to turn about the edge 77 as fulcrum.
