Abstract

310,917. American Engineering Co., (Assignees of Hughes, W. J.). April 13, 1928, [Convention date]. Fire-supporting tuyeres.-The tuyeres forming part of the fuel surface of underfed stokers have air discharge passages terminating short of the edge of the toe portions and the upper tuyere comprises a base portion in communication with the wind box and having a vertical duct discharging upwardly and forwardly. The main tuyere blocks 5, shown in Figs. 2 and 3, may be provided with interlocking lugs 7, 12 adapted to engage with holes 6, 13 in the tuyere immediately below as described in Specification 19165/14. The undersurface of the tuyere nose is provided with ribs 14, which may be of decreasing pitch towards the centre of the tuyere, terminating short of the edge of the nose as indicated at 15. The upper tuyere consists, as shown in Fig. 5, of a horizontal base portion 18 communicating at 19 with the wind box and provided with a vertical duct 20 discharging through inclined slots 22. The tuyere is bolted by means of a lug 23 to the main tuyere 5.
