308,284. Imray, O. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Oct. 13, 1927. Plastic compositions containing cellulose ethers. -For the manufacture of water-resistant products and articles from water-soluble alkyl celluloses, there is added to an aqueous solution of the cellulose ether a colloidal substance, either as such or in the form of a solution or an emulsion, which can be converted into a more solid sparingly-soluble or insoluble form, and thereafter the mixture is subjected, either before, during, or after the removal of the water, to conditions such as will produce the desired change in the added substance. The added substance may be an oxidized or drying oil, oxybenzyl alcohol, phenol-aldehyde intermediate condensation products, the condensation product from aldehydes and urea or from polybasic acids and polyhydric alcohols, esters of vinyl alcohol or acrilic acid esters. The treatment to effect the conversion of the added substance may be a heating operation in the presence or absence of air, or exposure to light of short wave length. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 252,176.
