Abstract
306,141. Brackelsberg, C. Feb. 16, [Convention date]. Rotary furnaces.-Cast iron of low gas and oxide content is produced in a rotary furnace fired by a powdered fuel burner. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes a furnace fired by a burner g, pivoted on trunnions m, so that the flame can be directed away from the charge and on to the top wall of the furnace. Flexible connections are provided in the air and fuel conduits h, c, and the front end of the burner is spherically shaped so that a tight joint can be made with the complementarily formed seating in the furnace. The burner can be locked in position bv bolts t which move in slots r in the fixed side plates o. Oxidation of the metal and absorption of gases are prevented by maintaining a slightly reducing atmosphere in the furnace, and by covering the molten charge with a layer of slag, the production of which may be facilitated by adding lime. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
