Valves and valve seats, arrangement of; valves, facilitating removal of.- The foot valve of a liquid pump comprises a pair of valves a, b located in the same axis one above the other on their own seatings c<1>, c<2> and in series in the fluid passage; the valves may be carried by a cage c removably mounted in a housing f. The housing is threaded to receive a union h, for connection to the pump, by which the cage is held in position; a strainer l is secured between the bottom of the cage c and a retaining flange g on the housing f. The upper valve a has a stem a<2> sliding in a sleeve b<2> of the lower valve b, this latter being guided in a ring d carried by arms d<1> extending from the cage c. Wings a<1>, b<1> are formed on the valves a, b to guide the valves and to cause a turning movement so that the valve seatings are worn evenly. The housing f is recessed at j to prevent distortion of the cage and valve seatings by any deformation of the housing.
