Abstract

Vibration-dampers. - Upward movement of the wheel of a vehicle or of an aircraft landing-wheel relatively the frame is resisted elastically by springs and frictionally by curved sliding surfaces. The axle F of the landing-wheel is carried eccentrically in a drum D with flanged edges mounted in upper and lower semi-circular members C<1>, C<2> carried by struts A<1> - - A<4> depending from the body of the aircraft. Ears D<4>, D' on the flanges of the drum are connected by elastic elements E to struts A<2>. The lower semi-circular strap C<2> may be tightened up to apply pressure to the drum by nuts B<5>. Cam or other mechanism may be used instead of the nuts B<5> or weighted levers may be employed so that the frictional grip depends upon vertical inertia forces. Asbestos frictional material may be applied to the drum or bands.
