Openers and cleaners.-A machine for opening and cleaning vegetable fibrous materials comprises a cylindrical casing a, in which revolves at a slow speed a shaft b carrying arms c, which may be provided with combs d. The casing also carries stationary arms d'. A fan e directs a blast -of air into the base of the cylinder above the grid k.' The fibre and light impurities are carried away by the air current into a centrifugal separator g, the fibres being carried over into a chamber h. The casing a may be provided with two shafts rotating in opposite directions and provided with light arms arranged in staggered relation and adapted to come together as they move upwards between the shafts.
