651,337. Twist tubes for textile spinning &c. machines. HEGEDUS, E. Oct. 31, 1947, No. 29141. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 31, 1947.] [Classes 120(ii) and 120(iii)] Also in Groups XXVI and XXXV] A twisting device for imparting a false twist to rovings or slivers and comprising a rotary twisting member 11 with a lateral slot 20 for the insertion of the roving or sliver and superposed guiding means including an intermediate guide member 26, providing an undulating course for the roving or sliver as disclosed in Specification 650,950, has the lateral slot 20 inclined with respect to the axis of rotation of the twisting member 11 and guiding means, preferably in the form of slots 21, 22 in the end faces, leading from the upper and lower ends of the lateral slot 20 towards the centre of the twisting member 11, one end slot or other guiding means forming a radial path and the other a non-radial path. Openings 23 preferably are provided in the end walls of the twisting member 11 to enable waste and shive to fall out. To reduce frictional effects, the intermediate guide member 26 may be a rotatable bar. Yielding support for the member 11 may be provided by rollers 12, 13 (not shown), 14 cooperating with flanges on the member 11, roller 12 being mounted on an arm pivoted on a support 15 and forced inwards by a spring, in a manner facilitating removal of the member 11. In alternative modifications, the supporting rollers may be flanged, or the surface of the twisting member may be spherical where it comes in contact with the bearing rollers. Drive may be transmitted to the member 11 through the roller 14 driven by a friction wheel 34. To stop the member 11, the support 15 may be raised about a hinge 16, thereby lifting the roller 14 out of contact with the friction wheel 34. Alternative means of driving the twisting member comprise fluid turbine and electromagnetic arrangements (see Groups XXVI and XXXV). It is stated that the twisting member may be heated electrically, or by means of a flame, or material leaving the member may be subjected to a singeing flame or an incandescent filament to burn off loose fibres. A moistening apparatus may also be provided on or in front of the member.
