Abstract

Machine cutters, grinding in situ.- The cut-off knife 20 of a continuous rod cigarette-making machine is sharpened by grinding-discs 6, one for each side of the blade mounted on spindles 7 in bearings 8 carried by rods adjustable in blocks 13. Each block is hinged on a horizontal axis in a bracket 14 and the position of the disc is adjustable in the plane of the knife by a screwed stop 15. The position of the disc transversely of the plane of the blade is adjusted by a screw 11 carrying a shoe 12 against which the spindle 7 is urged by a spring 10, and the angular position of the disc is adjustable by a quadrant 17 in the bracket 14. In order to renew a grinding-disc without stopping the machine, the block 13 is raised by a handle 18, and in the event of breakage of the knife, the bracket, if struck by the knife, swings upwardly. The complete mechanism is carried in a casing 1 with an inspection window 2, and may be applied. to machines having circular or sickle-shaped blades, with or without axial reciprocation.
