Abstract
303,628. Sun-Vi-Lite, Ltd., and Rawlings, R. J. Dec. 2, 1927. Arc lamps.-When the carbons of an arc lamp are consumed to a predetermined extent the arc current is diverted to operate a switch to break the circuit. For this purpose a fork-shaped guard-electrode 7 is arranged around the carbons and is connected to the carbon C<2> through a solenoid operating a switch. The carbons are parallel and the carbon C<1> is carried in a pivoted holder 4b and is raised to strike the arc by means of a solenoid 13. The holders 4<b>, 3b are trough shaped and the carbons are held in them by means of flat springs 5 curved as shown. The holders are separated by a sheet 15 of mica.
