Loud-speakes; magnetic instruments; diaphragms.-A loud-speaker or other acoustic device. having an unthrottled diaphragm has one or more fixed surfaces arranged adjacent to the diaphragm at such a distance as to avoid appreciable air damping. Fig. 1 shows a circular disc 11 and an annular disc 14 supported by screws on radial arms 8 above a coil-driven flat diaphragm 1. The discs 11, 14 are adjusted till the resonance due to the air spaces between them and the diaphragm corresponds to frequencies at which there is a dip in the frequency-response curve of the diaphragm. The fixed surfaces may take the form of solid bodies, and the invention may be applied to certain types of non-flat diaphragms. Specification 288,276 is disclaimed.
