Loud - speakers ; magnetic instruments; diaphragms.- In a hornless loud-speaker, the electromagnet system 2 and the diaphragm 6 are carried by a non-vibrating disc 1 from which they are isolated by buffers or rings of felt, rubber, or other sound absorbing material. The disc is preferably made of several thicknesses of corrugated paper r or strawboard. The magnet casing is fastened to twisted metal strips bolted to the disc with interposed felt &c. washers. The edge of the conical diaphragm 6 is shaped as shown and isolated from the supporting disc by a buffer 8 of cork and felt. Openings 10 in the disc are covered by an ornamental grille. The edge of the disc is confined between spun metal rings 12 and is isolated by a rubber cushion 14 from a heavy base 13. In modifications, the magnet system and diaphragm are on opposite sides of a square board or circular disc forming one wall of the cabinet. The conical diaphragm may be reversed so that its apex is presented to the magnet system. The rear wall of the casing or its grille may be loaded so as to increase its inertia.
