soldered or otherwise secured the end of a rod in whose other end is attached to the diaphragm c by any suitable means, the end of the forked member d being soldered to the vibrating element consisting of the strips or, plates (2, e, l.
In the arrangement which is shewn by way of example in transverse section and on a small scale in Fig. 7, and whereof Fig. 8 shews the details of the central part on a larger scale, the vibrations are transmitted from the membrane 6 of the telephone through the medium of a very light tube at which is secured by adhesion or by like means to the diaphragm c; it should be given a considerable diameter and is caused to bear upon the telephone disc or mem:
brane e.
The said tube may be composed of a paper strip wound up in several turns while coated with adhesive substance, and the Whole varnished; the upper end of the tube is slotted and overturned within and without so as to form various lugs m which are caused to adhere tp the diaphragm 0 through the medimn of one or more washers n preliminarily secured to the diaphragm. The bottom 05 the tube bears upon the said disc 6 of the telephone or of the acoustic cell (in coaxial position) and. if necessary through the intermediary of a washer q, Fig. 8, made of compressed felt, cork or the like, the pressure being adjusted by suitable means. The lower edge of the said tube r may have a toothed form, Fig. 8, so as to constitute a series of uniformly spaced contact portions for transmitting the vibrations from the telephone disc to the said diaphragm.
Obviously, the said constructional forms are given solely by way of example, and the said invention may be carried into effect by the use of embodiments of a widely varying nature.
What I claim is I 1. An electro-magnetic loud speaker for the production of intense acoustic Waves by converting electromagnetic vibrations into acoustic vibrations of large amplitude com prising in combination a diaphragm having warped members in the manner of a circular fan, an electro-magnetic receiver constituted by a vibrating blade situated in front of conveniently disposed electromagnets, and a pointed rod fixed to the diaphragm at a con venient point and resting upon the vibrating plate.
2. An electro-magnetic loud speaker for the production of intense acoustic waves by converting electromagnetic vibrations into acoustic vibrations of large amplitude comprising in combination. a diaphragm havin warped members in the manner of a circu ar fan, an electro-magnetic receiver constituted by a vibrating blade situated in front of conveniently disposed electromagnets, a rod for connecting a convenient point of the vibrating plate to a convenient point of the diaphragm for transmitting the vihrations from one to the other, and means for displacing the whole of the electro-niagnctic receiver and of the vibrating blade relatively to the diaphragm to have the pointed rod resting upon the most convenient point of the vibrating blade.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing; as my invention 1 have signed my name hereto.
LoUis Lemmas.
