Loud-speakers : diaphragms. - A device for use as a loud-speaker or gramophone sound-box comprises a large resonance chamber a provided with a short, shallow or dish-shaped horn d, preferably formed integral therewith, and a diaphragm b arranged in front of the resonance chamber so as to utilize the sound waves from both its outer and inner sides. This is effected in the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 by mounting the diaphragm on a number of blocks c so as to leave an annular aperture between the edge of the diaphragm and the inner wall of the horn. In modified constructions the diaphragm is stretched right across the inside of the horn and provided with a number of perforations around it near its edge or, as shown in Fig. 5, the diaphragm b may be supported on a flanged frame ax secured to the back d<1> and provided with holes b'. If desired, the walls of the frame ax may be made so thin as to dispense with the holes b<1>. In some cases the resonance chamber itself may be perforated either round the sides or at the back, or both as desired. In the constructions shown in which the device is employed as a loud-speaker, a receiver e is connected by a light rod e<1> to the centre of the diaphragm. the whole being mounted on a pillar f and pedestal f<1>.
