Abstract

297,139. Spencer, K. S. S., and Rees Mace Manufacturing Co., Ltd. June 15, 1927. Diaphragms; loud-speakers; magnetic instruments.-Relates to a loud-speaker having a plurality of conical or similarly shaped diaphragms of different angularity and adapted to be commonly actuated at their apexes. As shown in Fig. 2, the sound reproducing element comprises two diaphragms 1, 2 of different angularity supported at their apexes on a bolt 6 which is secured to the armature 3 of the driving unit 7. The position of the armature 3 is adjustable by a nut 8 which controls the tension of the spring 9. The peripheries of the diaphragms are held in engagement with felt pads 20 mounted on the inner side of the front panel 17 of a cabinet 12, the pressure on the pads being adjustable by regulating the position of the back panel 11 through the intermediary of adjustable nuts 13 and springs 14. The front panel is provided with openings 18, 19 which permit the emission of sound waves from the chamber between the diaphragms 1, 2 and from the interior of the diaphragm 2. The peripheries of the diaphragms may be turned back and left free to vibrate or may be provided with flat flexible portions clamped to the front wall of the cabinet. Instead of two diaphragms, three diaphragms may be provided.
