Abstract

302,967. Wade, H., (Standard Compositor Akt.-Ges.). Sept. 22, 1927. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Assembling, clamping, and aligning matrices. -In machines having a vertically movable matrix-carriage, movable Jocking means carried on the machine frame is arranged to engage automatically with the matrix-carriage, when in the casting position, in order to prevent displacement thereof. The extent of downward movement of the carriage into the casting position is controlled by an adjustable abutment 5, which contacts with a stop-plate 6 on the machine frame. The matrix line 2 is held in the carriage 1 by a control-bar 8, which slides in guides on the machine frame, and is pressed against the end of the line by the action of a rack and pinion 9, operated by gearing from a shaft 10. The carriage is locked by a sliding locking-member 16 having a projection 17, which is adapted to er.gage over an abutment 18 on the carriage. The coacting faces of the projection and of the projection and of the abutment are inclined, and the abutment is adjustable by eccentric means. The locking-member 16 is actuated by a lever 14 from a cam 11 on the shaft 10, which acts through a lever 12 and spring 13. After the casting, the control-bar 8 and the locking-member 16 are, withdrawn by the shaft 10.
