Abstract

301,515. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Dec. 2, 1927, [Convention date]. Emulsions, making,-Butadiene 1 : 3 or a homologue or analogue, being a compound containing the carbon chain -C=C-C=C-, is emulsified and then polymerized in the presence of a water-soluble salt of a bile-acid or derivative, or in the presence of animal gall. Examples of suitable salts are the alkali-metal and ammonium desoxycholates and apocholates. The polymerization is accelerated, yielding products in the form of latex-like emulsions, which can be coagulated, e.g. by acetic acid, yielding artificial rubbers which are purified by extraction with alcohol. In the Specification as open to public inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the use of an alkaline solution of sodium desoxycholate is mentioned in an example. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
