Abstract
536,301. Indiarubber. BRITISH RUBBER PRODUCERS' RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. (Wentworth, V. H.). Dec. 1, 1939. No. 31244. [Class 70] Softened rubber is prepared by coagulating latex in presence of a solution in caustic soda or potash of peptising agent which is insoluble in water and is precipitated when the latex is coagulated by addition of formic or other acid. Peptising agents are used which contain acidic groups such as carboxy, phenolic or mercapto groups for example, mercaptobenzthiazole. The coagulum is formed into sheets and dried, preferably at 140-180‹F. in the early stages and later at 110-140‹F.
