Abstract
521,436. Purifying latex. RUBBERSTICHTING. June 13, 1939, No. 17314. Convention date, June 27, 1938. [Class 70] Latex of indiarubber, balata, gutta percha, jelutong, abiurana, and the like is purified by treatment with lye, preferably sodium hydroxide, under normal pressure and at boiling temperature, and is then subjected to dialysis. Filtered latex to which is added-lye, for instance 10 grammes of sodium hydroxide dissolved in 20 grammes of water' per litre of latex, is maintained at boiling temperature for two hours by means of steam, introduced for example by a perforated heating plate, the liquid being then reduced if necessary to a concentration of 20 per cent. dry content by the addition of water. The latex is then dialysed until no lye reaction can be detected, preferably by passing it through a seamless tube or coil of regenerated cellulose immersed in a current of boiling water. The purified latex is further diluted to about 5 per cent. concentration and subsequently coagulated with weak acid solution. Specification 354,380 is referred to.
