Abstract

542,895. Purifying rubber latex. BRITISH RUBBER PRODUCERS' RESEARCH ASSOCIATION (Rubber Research Station, Netherlands East Indies Government Plantations). March 4, 1941, No. 2929. [Class 70] Latices of rubber, balata, gutta percha, abiurana, jelutong, gondang &c. are purified by concentrating, e.g. using a separator, or using a creaming agent such as Konnyaku flour, and then treating as in Specification 521,436, i.e. with caustic alkali, e.g. 10 gms. of caustic, soda per litre of latex, at boiling temperature followed by dialysis, e.g. against pure water. In an example 30 to 35 per cent. latex is concentrated to 50 to 60 per cent. and re-diluted with weak caustic soda solution heated to boiling temperature with the aid of " live " steam, diluted to 20 per cent. dialized, diluted to 5 per cent., coagulated and worked into crepe or sheet. The product is stated to be of lower ash and protein content, and lower water-absorbency than that of the process of Specification 521,436.
