Abstract
301,298. Akt.-Ges., Brown, Boveri, et Cie. Nov. 26, 1927, [Convention date]. Heating parts.-Relates to means for heating up turbines before use, and for keeping them hot. The requisite heat is imparted to the turbine casing externally by steam or hot air or by electric heating devices. Fig. 1 shows the air space 22 between the turbine casing 7 and an outer shell 27 heated by steam coils 15 and/or an electric heating net work 50 embedded in insulating material 28. In Fig. 3, hot air is circulated through the space 22 by a pump 20, the heat being supplied by a steam beater 23 controlled by a thermostat 30. The heat may be derived from flue gases. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement in which a rod 49 controlling the amount of heat supplied is positioned by a bellcrank lever 46 which is actuated when the turbine casing 40 moves axially upon heating up. The casing has a fixed support at 41 and a movable support at 42. The casing flanges may be ridged, and the connecting belts cored, and the arrangement of heating coils and baffles may be varied. The steam pipes and control valves may be sinailarly heated, and the steam admission valve may be interlocked with the valve controlling the heating-up process.
