Abstract
8043. Collis, J. H., and Collis, A. March 30. Right to Patent relinquished. Drying.-Instead of using steam-pipes under the covers or hoods of drying-cylinders, heating- means, such as gas jets, are provided at one end, or the steam-pipes may be enclosed in hollow covers of box-like form. As shown in Fig. 3, the drying-cylinder 1 is partly enclosed by a hood or cover 20 heated by means of a gas pipe 22, air being drawn through by a fan 15. The hood may be lined with fire-brick. In an arrangement where the steam-pipes are enclosed in a box, strips are fitted against the side of the cylinder 1 to confine the heat. The hood may be made in sections, and the sections may be hinged, and steam, gas, electricity, or hot air may be used for heating.
