Abstract
626,668. Drying apparatus. COLIN & CIE. Oct. 21, 1946. No. 31209. Convention. date, Oct. 23, 1945. [Class 34(ii)] Foundry moulds &c. are dried in a closed heated oven by a continuous circulating current of air which gradually increases in moisture content and temperature until the resulting superheated steam completes the drying. The oven has heat insulated walls 57 and a door 6, and is heated by combustion gases fed through mouth 45. The gases pass through tubes 13- 16, then in the direction of arrows F1 through flat metal radiators 5, 9 and 11 on both sides of the oven, and are finally exhausted through a chimney 4. The oven gases are circulated by a fan 21 through an inlet 22, pipes 24 and 19, heating exchange chamber 46, and through an elongated opening 56 back to the oven. Pressure is relieved, due to expansion of the steam generated, by allowing the gases to operate a valve 2 and escape through a chimney 3.
