Sleeve joints with packing expanded by fluid pressure. - Fluid-tightness between the adjacent ends of two pipes f, l, Figs. 1 and 2, having attached flanges d is secured by packing rings c which are located in peripheral grooves k in the flanges d and are expanded against an external sleeve e by the internal fluid pressure acting through small orifices b formed in the ends of the pipes and the flanges as shown. The sleeve c is retained in position by loose flanges g and bolts m. In a modification, Fig. 2, the retaining flanges and bolts are replaced bv a two-part sleeve D; while the orifices b are led to the space between the pipe ends.
