300,324. Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., Willshaw, H., Davis, W. A., and Smith, H. Aug. 22, 1927. Moulding wheel tyres.-In apparatus for moulding or shaping tyres from a flat band, the band is supported and aligned with the core by a series of plates or members which are moved to engage and align the tyre and withdrawn automatically with the operation of the apparatus. As shown in Fig. 1, applied to a tyre moulding press, the tyre band 2 is supported in alignment with the core 3 upon a series of plates 1 secured to spindles 4 which reciprocate with the core and are rotated to withdraw the plates by fixed, forked brackets 6 embracing twisted, flattened portions 7 of the spindle. The spindles are pivoted in brackets 4<a>, 4<b> extending from rods 11 carried by a member 10 supported by stays 13 from the part 14 of the core. The rods 11 carry the tread moulding ring 9. Fig. 3 shows a modification involving a press with a floating tread ring 9 wherein the spindles are supported by fixed brackets 20, 22, 23 and the members 6 are carried by the lower mould section 12. The plates may be replaced by plungers or the like operated through rack gear.
