Planes, arrangement of; propelling; balancing; shock-absorbers, application of; land wheels; floats, arrangement of.-Large aeroplanes have a central structure 1 rigidly connected to a lower beam which may form part of the frame of the fuselage 4, and wings 7 are pivoted to or rigidly secured to the ends of the structure 1 and are stayed by struts 9, 13<a> and 11 to the ends of the lower beam. The struts 13<a> which may be pivoted or fixed to the lower beam may be faired to form small planes. Engines 14 may be carried at the ends of the structure 1 and floats or wheels at the ends of the struts 13a. Springs and dampers may be inserted in the struts 9 to allow the planes to give under stress. A modification is described in which springs are inserted in inclined struts connecting the wings, midway of their length to the beam at the lower edge of the fuselage. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement of struts and springs when a landing wheel is mounted at the point 10.
