Abstract
299,820. Gessmann, W., and Shalders, E. W. June 30, 1927. Hydrocarbons.-Low-boiling hydrocarbons are obtained by passing a mixture of unsaturated hydrocarbons (preferably acetylene), carbon monoxide, and hydrogen at normal pressure and without supplying heat over a metal catalyst which is subjected to the influence of chemically active light rays. A suitable catalyst is obtained by treating a mixture of finely divided copper, tungsten, and pumice with dilute alkali solution and drying thoroughly. The catalyst is initially heated to 70-80‹ C. and is maintained at that temperature by the heat of the reaction. It may be irradiated with ultra-violet rays for 15 minutes in every two hours.
