[Class 51 (ii)] The apparatus described in the parent Specification is used for carrying out reactions that are carried out at high temperatures and under pressures other than subatmospheric, particularly reactions in conversions of hydrocarbons such as the conversion of ethane and other hydrocarbons into ethylene, the conversion of methane into benzene or the production of formaldehyde from methane and oxygen, in which there is present the danger of the decomposition of the participants in the reaction through the catalytic influence of by-products of the reaction.
