Abstract

298,119. Hotckis, M. H. July 11, 1927. Propelling by means other than adhesion driving-wheels and racks.-A motor implement for cultivating tea plantations &c. comprises a frame adapted to rock on a wheel axle for raising and lowering purposes, rotary cultivating or digging tools at the front of the frame driven from a motor, and means at the rear for manually guiding it the propulsion of the implement while at work being effected solely by the engagement of the digging tools with the ground. The frame consists of two sides 1 of steel, iron, aluminium &c., connected together by tie rods 2, 3, 4, 5, the rod 3 forming the axle for one or more wheels 7. Rear guiding handles comprise flat iron members 10 connected by tie rods and terminating in grips 12. A two-stroke motor 8 with flywheel magneto is carried by plates 14 mounted on the tie bars 4, 5. A fuel tank may be strapped to the tie rods 11 or mounted in standards above the motor. The tool shaft 9 at the front may be arranged to be driven in either direction through a clutch and chain gearing, part of which is enclosed in a twopart gear-case 26. The clutch and throttle controls are placed beside the hand grips 12. The motor 8, handles, &c. approximately balance the weight of the tools, and the latter, may be raised by depressing the handles. A disc 32 may be mounted at the centre of the shaft 9 for use as a wheel like that of a wheel-barrow. A tread made in semi-circular halves may be bolted, to it so that it may be used as a power-driven propelling wheel. A shield 34 may be mounted behind the tools. According to the Provisional Specification a brake may be provided.
