[Also in Group XXXI] In a power-assisted barrow comprising a frame having members 12, 13 forming rearwardly directed handles 18, and a pair of coaxial driving wheels 11 driven from a frame-mounted engine 17, the frame is provided with brackets 22 disposed forwardly of the wheel axis, the brackets serving to engage trunnions 27 on a bucket 23 for lifting and transporting purposes. As shown, the engine support comprises transverse frame members 15 interconnected by members 16. The wheels 11 are driven from the engine 17 through a clutch, a reduction gear-box and an axle 10, the axle casing being carried by the members 12, 13. Differential movement of the wheels 11 is permitted by ratchet drives or an epicyclic system of gears. The barrow is provided with a supporting castor wheel 21. The handles 18 are associated with throttle and clutch controls. The members 12 support through struts 19 a transverse bar 20 to enable the barrow to be tilted about the wheels 11 so that the brackets 22 engage the trunnions 27 formed on a pivoted handle 24 of the bucket 23, the handle 24 being held by a catch 26 and reverse tilting of the barrow lifting the bucket into the transporting position. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the wheels are driven through independent lateral chain drives, stub axles therefor being carried by the frame. The brackets 22 may be carried by separate levers pivoted rearwardly of the wheels and locked relatively to the handles by a catch. If desired a wheeled frame carrying an operator's seat may be suitably pivoted to the barrow. Means may be provided for power lifting the barrow to pick up the bucket, such means comprising a hydraulic or pneumatic ram and cylinder supplied by an engine-driven pump and associated with the castor wheels or with a skid member.
