[Class 6 (i)] A rotary tiller comprises the combination of a spiral blade 1, with an end thrust resisting wheel 6, a tractor carrying hydraulically operating supporting means 18-23, a spring cushioned shock absorbing rod 31 and means for conveying a rotary motion to the spiral tiller. The specially shaped blade 1 rotates on shaft 2 supported in bearings 11, 13 carried on end plates 9, 10. The whole structure including platform 8 and baffle plate 7 is carried on wheels 4, 5 adjustable as to depth. The wheel 6 has a hub 52 running on the surface of the ground with a peripheral blade 53 cutting to a substantial depth, and is supported on an arm 15 free to move in a vertical plane against a downwardly pressing spring 16 the whole being pivoted at 38 to the end plate 9. The tractor carries supporting machinery, and the bar 18 adjustable to length, is secured and cushioned by spring 19, and carries hangers 20 attached to lugs 26 on the strengthening rear and front angle girders 40 on platform 8. Levers attached to the rear lugs 26 on the rear girder have the lifting mechanism 22, 23 attached and operated by known means from the tractor. The rod 31 is attached to the structure at the opposite side to the disc wheel 6 at angle of 45 degrees to the longitudinal axis and at angle of from 10 degrees - 30 degrees with the horizontal axis providing a further resistance to the end thrust. The means for driving the shaft 2 is via sprocket chain drive in casing 3 and a shaft 27 from gear box 28 to which is supplied a drive from the stub-shaft 24 via universal joint 25 and shaft 29. The baffle plate 7 is hinged on to platform 8 and when lowered the edge 44 smooths over the tilled surface. Also on platform 8 is a soil control damper 43 adjustable by slot and bolt 43a, 43b. The leading edge of plate 9 is sharpened and a flat member 33 is provided to protect the ends of the spiral blade ; the member 33 is sharpened and both sharpened members serve to cut along the edge of the furrow. Wheel 5 may be adjusted through gearing 34, 35, 36 and lever 37. Wheel 4 is adjusted by rebolting plate 41 holding the bearing 12 in selected holes in plate 10.
