Abstract
297,837. BussiÞre, M. Sept. 30, 1927, [Convention date]. Indicators actuated by pressure of head of liquid.-A device for supplying air to a pneumatic liquid level indicator for the fuel tank of a motor vehicle comprises a piston or diaphragm pump operated by a spring-balanced weight set in oscillation by the movement of the vehicle. An open-ended tube 2 connected to a pressure gauge carries a pump cylinder 6, the piston 7 of which is pressed upwards by a spring 12' against an extension 8<a> of a weight 8 mounted to oscillate on the tube 2 between springs 9, 10. Air is drawn into the cylinder through tube 13 and valve 14, and delivered through valve 15 and tube 3 into the open end of the tube 2 to keep the latter full of air, so that the pressure of the liquid due to its head above the bottom of the tube 2 is transmitted to the gauge. In a modification, the valves 14, 15 are arranged one above the other. The gauge may have two scales, one for indicating when the air-supplying means are in operation, and the other for indicating when the tank is being filled and the vehicle is at rest.
