Abstract

297,353. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Lawes, W. H. June 17, 1927. Commutator motor meters have groups of coils arranged so as to be entirely astatic in all conditions of external fields. Mounted on the shaft 3 are two groups of three coils, one groups 4, 5, 6 being mounted above the other group 4<1>, 5<1>, 6<1> and arranged so that diametrically opposite coils 4, 4<1> are in parallel, planes on opposite sides of the shaft 3, the other pairs of coils 5, 5' and 6, 6<1> being similarly arranged. Each pair of coils is connected in series between two segments of a threepart commutator 7, the coils of each pair being oppositely wound. When used as an energy meter, the current coil may consist of a single turn comprising a flat strip of copper 10 provided with leads 11 and a central hole through which the shaft 3 passes. Any odd number of coils may be contained in each group, the commutator having a corresponding number of segments.
