Abstract

251,049. Hofman, C. G., and Hofman, L. C. Feb. 24, 1925. Condensers of the kind wherein the stator and rotor consist of a plurality of concentrically arranged part cylindrical intermeshing vanes, have the vanes of the stator assembled between two end plates having central bearings and the vanes of the rotor carried by a yoke or crank member offset from a spindle mounted to turn in the bearings in the end plate. The stator comprises semi-cylindrical vanes a concentrically arranged between, and received in grooves in, end places b, c provided with insulated bearings c, f. The rotor comprises corresponding vanes g assembled in similar grooves on a yoke h, having spindles i, j for engaging the bearings e, f and an insulating stud k for limiting its travel. For fine adjustment the spindle i is made hollow to receive a second spindle l connected with a small yoke m, which carries a single vane n for co-operating with the innermost stator vane and is pivoted at its lower end on the spindle j. The travel of the vane n may be limited by insulating stops o on the posts d, and the vanes may be shaped to give any desired relationship, that shown being a square-law one.
