Abstract

Inductances.-In variable inductances having pairs of D- shaped coils, one pair being fixed and the other movable. each coil is situated partly in a peripheral groove and partly in a transverse slot in an insulating support the depth of the grooves being sufficient to prevent the coils from projecting above the surface. The rotor consists of an ebonite &c. disc 1 formed with a peripheral groove 2 and two oblique transverse grooves 3. A stud 4, secured at the upper end by a nut, passes through the disc and is screwed at 7. Soldering tags 8 are secured by screws 9 in a shallow groove. The stator 11 is formed with grooves 12, 13 similar to and correspondingly situated with regard to the grooves 2, 3, and is mounted on a screwed bush 14. Soldering tags are carried by the disc 11. In assembling the variometer, the bush 14 of the stator is secured to the panel 17 by a nut 18, the stud 4 is passed through the bush and supported therein by a cylindrical nut 20, a spring washer 19 being inserted between the end of the bush and the nut 20. A dial 23, having a turning-knob 26, is secured to the stud 4 by a nut 24. Movement between the rotor and stator is limited by a lug 29 on the former engaging a pin 28 on the latter, or stop members may be arranged on the dial and panel respectively.
