Apparatus for making filaments. - Artificial threads prepared from cellulose solutions are treated with liquids subsequent to the initial washing on spinning bobbins and drying, for example desulphurized, in the case of viscose silk or freed from copper in the case of cuprammonium silk and then bleached, oiled, acidified, washed or dyed whilst they are wound in the twisted condition on porous bobbins or perforated bobbins provided with a porous covering, the treating liquid being slowly percolated through the fibres by means of slight pressure or combined pressure and suction pro duced by the column of liquid used in the treat ment. In the apparatus shown, the bobbins b are placed in the vessel a on sealing blocks c, fitted with tubes e, and are closed above with stoppers d, the base f of vessel a being removable in order to facilitate introduction of the bobbins. When the bobbins have been sealed, the vessel a is filled with the treating liquid to a height depending upon the pressure necessary to force the liquid slowly through the fibres into the interior of the bobbin, which pressure depends upon the gauge and tension of the wound fibres or alternatively tube e is connected with a second vessel containing the treating liquid, which is thus caused to percolate through the fibres from the interior of the bobbin. The liquid can also be drawn through the fibres by a small suction effect combined with the pressure treatment by prolonging the tube e in known manner to produce the suction effect by the flow of the liquid therein.
