Abstract

296,853. Brown, W. J., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. July 11, 1927. Thermionic generators.-In apparatus for producing or utilizing oscillations of very high frequency such as described in Specifications 268,028, 268,029, 274,183, 287,663 and 291,619, a conductor connecting two points spaced apart is such that its electrical length is at least a plurality of wavelengths of the frequency of the apparatus. Such a conductor serves to connect batteries or telephones and preferably has a. low attenuation per unit length at low or zero frequencies. The conductor may comprise a closely wound helix of small diameter which may be wound upon, embedded in or contained within a tube of insulating material having high di-electric losses. Alternatively, the conductor may comprise a helix provided with an insulated iron core or a length of wire enclosed within but insulated from a continuous sheath or helix of iron.
