Abstract

Cable terminals.- - Cable ends are constructed so as to increase the capacity at differenb points of the outer surface of the insulation 1 and obtain a more uniform potential gradient from the end of the cable 3 to the end of the sheath 2. The fall of the potential may be graduated in regular steps by the insertion of annular conducting or semiconducting surfaces N normal to the axis of the conductor and maintained in position by spacing rings H, W, insulation K being provided. The space F may be filled with insulation, while the insulation in the different sections mav be varied. The end surfaces may have rounded edges 0 to prevent discharge between them. In a modification, the sheath is connected to a trumpet shaped conductor wholly or partly filled. with insulation which may be of the same material as the insulation 1.
