Abstract
296,536. Arnold, C., (Standard Development Co.). Aug. 8, 1927. Hydrogenation, destructive. - Hydrocarbons are obtained by subjecting a finely-ground mass of solid carbonaceous material to the action of hydrocarbon oil and an aqueous liquid to separate the bulk of the asli, and destructively hydrogenating the residual material wetted with hydrocarbon oil. Suitable temperatures and pressures are 700-1000‹ F. and 50-200 atmospheres. Catalyst, e.g. oxides of chromium or of molybdenum may Le pnesent. The oily carbonaceous mixture may be beaten into foam or an emulsion with the hydrogen. The product may be used directly as a fuel mixed or not with other fuel oil. or it may be distilled or cracked. Coals and coky residiums are specified for treatment. Specifications 151,236 and 159,497, [both in Class 82 (ii), Washing granular &c.], are referred to.
