Abstract

544,366. Cracking oils. STANDARD OIL. DEVELOPMENT CO. Aug. 21, 1940, No. 13275. Convention date, Aug, 31, 1939. Addition to 542,989. [Class 32] In the process for the catalytic cracking of hydrocarbon oils according to the parent Specification, petroleum coke is used as the absorbent and abrasive contact material. Gas oil having a boiling range of 450-1400‹F. is vaporized in a tubular furnace 2 and the vapours are mixed with with a dispersion of coke in steam from the chamber 4. The mixture is cracked at 1000‹F. and at 100 lb. per square inch pressure for ten seconds in a coil 6. The cracked products pass through line 8 to a cyclone separator 9 and the separated coke passes downwardly over baffles 11 while being treated with steam injected through line 31. The steam and recovered oil vapours are mixed with the cracked vapours and passed through a further separator 16 to a fractionator 18 from which fractions of gasoline boiling range are recovered through line 19 and cooler 20 to storage tank 21. The coke may be deflected by damper 37 into discharge line 42 or fed to grinding chamber 32 having grinding rolls 33 from which it passes to hopper 35 and is discharged by conveyer 38 or recycled to dispersion chamber 4 by conveyer 36 where it is dispersed by steam fed through line 22 and super-heater 23.
