Abstract
Improvements in or related to the production of gases by liquid hydrocarbon cracking, in a fluidized bed of solid particles, comprising such improvements; the formation of a unitary layer of solid particles formed by a central area for cracking of a starting liquid hydrocarbon in gases, a lower area for cracking of the liquid hydrocarbon recovered from the hydrocarbon subjected to gas cracking and an upper area for rapid cooling of the cracking gases, communicating the central zone with the others by means of narrow passages or necks, formed between adjacent zones; the introduction of oxygen, vapor of a fluidizing gas and the recovered liquid hydrocarbon in the lower zone, from the bottom, to completely fluidize the solid particles and partially burn the recovered liquid hydrocarbon, thus subjecting the latter to gas cracking; the pulverization or atomization of the starting liquid hydrocarbon and other part of the vapor of a fluidizing gas in the central zone, while the steam, the cracking gases of the recovered liquid hydrocarbon and the solid particles entrained in the lower zone are thrown into the central zone from the bottom, through the narrow zone or neck, thus subjecting gas cracking to the starting liquid hydrocarbon in the central zone; spraying or atomizing another part of the starting liquid hydrocarbon and/or another part of the recovered liquid hydrocarbon to the upper zone, while mixing the steam, the cracking gases of the starting and recovered liquid hydrocarbons and the solid particles dragged from the central zone are thrown into the upper zone, from the bottom, through the narrow zone or neck, thus rapidly cooling the cracking gas mixture, with the result that some of the carbon and tar and oil fraction Heavy intervening gas mixture adheres to entrained solid particles; and the removal of the resulting gas mixture from the upper zone and its treatment to separate the rest of the carbon and tar and heavy oil, which is the recovered liquid hydrocarbon that has to be fed to the bed, while some part of the solid particles With carbon deposited it is removed from the upper zone and forced to return to the cycle in the lower zone.
