Abstract

296,149. McMaster, A. June 15, 1927. Lateral - splash guards. - A splash guard for a vehicle wheel is kept in its " in use " position at the side of the wheel by air pressure. The splash guard 1, Fig. 1, in the form of a wheel, is mounted on a rod 3, pivoted at 5 in a bracket attached to the running board, and is balanced by a spring or weight 7. An upstanding arm 8 is connected to the bar 3 and is acted upon by air pressure to force the wheel 1 into contact with the ground when the vehicle is travelling. A stop 10 limits the upward movement of the wheel 1. In Fig. 3, the guard is in the form of a trough-shaped member 11 which communicates with a funnel 12, the air, when the vehicle is travelling, entering by the funnel and tilting the guard as shown in full lines. The air which enters the funnel is projected by the trough 11 on to the track of the vehicle wheel.
