Axle distance members.-A motor cycle of the kind having the rear wheel pivotally mounted in the frame so that, the, distance between the engine and the wheel axle is readily adjustable for belt. tensioning purposes when the cycle is being driven, is provided with a pair of arms e which are pivoted to the frame at d, carry the, wheel axle f, and are connected by rods i to arms l on a hand or foot-actuated shaft k, a, strong spring p acting on the rods i so as to pull the rear wheel forward and slacken the driving belt when the cycle is unoccupied, as shown in Fig. 1, while, when the rider is on the cycle the spring stretches and allows the wheel to move rearwardly and tension the belt, as shown in Fig. 2. The shaft k may be rotated either by a hand lever r or a. pedal o.
