422,175. Velocipedes propelled by weight of rider. LAARMANN, O., 44, Bischofswerdaerstrasse, Elstra, Saxony, Germany. Sept. 11, 1934, No. 26074. [Class 136 (ii)] In a velocipede of the type comprising wheeled jointed frame members adapted to be alternately spread apart and drawn towards one another by displacements of the rider's weight, so as to effect propulsion, the frame members are operatively coupled to free-wheel devices adapted to drive one of the supporting wheels. The vehicle comprises a steering-member a provided with a handle-bar e and connected by hinges i to a frame member f, g, h, carrying a saddle k. A frame member b carrying the rear wheel d is pivoted at v to the front frame member so as to be displaceable relatively thereto by the transfer of the rider's weight from the saddle k to a footrest n at the junction of two pivoted links l, m, and vice versa. The axle of the rear wheel d carries two spring-controlled free-wheel drums s, one connected by a cable p direct to the link m, and the other by a cable r passing over a pulley u to the opposite side of the link m. The ratio of transmission may be varied by shifting the point of connection of the cables to the link m, either by means of a number of apertures o, or by means of a slidable fastening-member controlled by a lever &c. The saddle may be adjusted along the frame member g, and may also be adjusted in elevation by pivoting the member g and making the member h adjustable in length.
