Abstract

Propelling by means other than adhesion driving-wheels and racks.-The body of an aeroplane comprises a pair of longitudinal tubular members 7 in the front ends of which are mounted motors 11 and propellers 12. The rear ends of the members are formed with depressions 14 in which are mounted turbines 16 actuated by the air currents to generate power for the motors. A central portion 5 between the members 7 is formed with vertical passages 6, lifting propellers 20 being mounted in the passages. The wings 9 have longitudinal passages 10. The longitudinal passages in the wings and body may be of rectangular, circular or oval cross-section. The members 7 may have flared front ends, as shown in Fig. 6, which also shows a modified arrangement of turbines 18. In a modification. the central portion 5 is tubular, and has a generator driven by an air-screw at its front end. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the method of propulsion may be applied to land vehicles. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
