294,637. Corbin, E. A., Bidlle, W. C., and Brown, W. A. July 28, 1927, [Convention date]. Flexible wheels.-A spring wheel comprises a rim 17 and discs 10, 16, the latter having a coned centre-part 4 seated on the coned flange 3 of a sleeve 2 which, under load, is displaced axially on the hub 1 against the resistance of a spring 5, Figs. 1 and 2, or a series of springs, Fig. 7. In the case of driving-wheels, a torquetransmission ring 7, interposed between the disc 10 and a hub-plate 15, is formed on each face with parallel teeth engaging grooves in the disc and plate, the teeth on one face of the ring being arranged at right-angles to those on the other. The outer side of the wheel is closed by a hub-cap 6 having an extended flange 6a supporting the disc 16. The flanges 6a, 15 are fitted with packing 19 to exclude dust &c., and to retain lubricant in the wheel-centre. In the modification shown in Fig. '7, nested helical springs are replaced by single volute springs 5<1>. The driving-teeth and grooves on the ring 7 may be perforated for the passage of lubricant. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a heavier form of wheel, shown in Fig. 9 (Cancelled), wherein the sleeve 2 is fitted with a thrust-ring 2<a> between which and a ring 5a<1> bearing inside the hub-cap 6a<11> a series of nested springs 5<11>, 5b is arranged. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
