Abstract
293,616. McKay, T. G., and Robertson, R. M. Nov. 1, 1927. Road-traffic signals on vehicles.-In signalling- apparatus for use on road vehicles, the front indicator comprising an arrow-shaped pointer 1 is secured to a spindle 9 which is rotatable by a handle 11 and is supported by a casing 12 fixed on a rod 14 slidable for the purpose of adjustment in a bracket 13 secured to the dashboard. The pointer 1 is locked in the indicating positions by means of a spring-pressed plunger 19 engaging recesses 20 in a collar 21 on the spindle 9. A pin 26 engages recesses in the collar 21 to limit its movement to 190‹. The pointer 1 is a casing having an arrow-shaped opening behind which is placed a white flashed opal glass backed by a coloured glass which shows up when interior lamps are lighted by a switch 8. The wiring for a front indicator 1 as described, and for a rear indicator 28 is shown in Fig. 12, the two circuits being independent. An automatic switch is provided in the casing 12 for controlling the illumination of the lamps 29, 30 of the rear indicator in accordance with the movement of the front pointer 1, and an ammeter 39 with a luminous finger is arranged on the dashboard to indicate whether the rear indicator is functioning. A switch 50 operated by the movement of the brake-rod or other part for slowing-down or stopping the vehicle lights a lamp 52 giving a " stop " signal.
